The Hope Downs mine is an iron ore mine located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, 100 kilometres northwest of Newman. The mine is partly owned and operated by Rio Tinto Iron Ore and is one of twelve iron ore mines the company operates in the Pilbara. In the calendar year 2009, the combined Pilbara operations produced 202 million tonnes of iron ore, a 15 percent increase from 2008. The Pilbara operations accounted for almost 13 percent of the worlds 2009 iron ore production of 1.59 billion tonnes.

Hope Downs Mine Company is a privately owned iron ore mining company located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The company was established in 2006 and is a joint venture between Rio Tinto and Hancock Prospecting. The mine is located approximately 120 kilometres north-west of Newman and is the second largest iron ore mine in the region.

The mine produces more than 20 million tonnes of iron ore per annum, making it one of the largest producers in the Pilbara region. The ore is transported via rail to the port of Dampier for export. The ore is used for steel production in countries such as China, Japan, South Korea and India.
