Company Description

The Ravensthorpe Nickel Mine is a nickel mine located 33 km east of Ravensthorpe, Western Australia.

Ravensthorpe Nickel Mine is a nickel mining operation located in the Ravensthorpe Shire of Western Australia. It is owned and operated by First Quantum Minerals, a Canadian-based mining and metals company. The mine is located approximately 350km south-east of Perth, and is one of the world’s largest nickel operations.

The mine was initially developed in 2007 by BHP Billiton, and began producing nickel concentrate in 2008. In 2009, First Quantum Minerals acquired the mine from BHP Billiton, and has since invested heavily to improve its operations. This has included the development of a new ore processing plant, as well as the construction of a new port facility to export the nickel concentrate.

The Ravensthorpe Nickel Mine is one of the most important nickel producers in the world. It produces around 45,000 tonnes of nickel concentrate per year, which is used in the production of stainless steel and other alloys. The mine employs around 400 people, and is a major contributor to the local economy.

The mine has been subject to controversy in the past due to its environmental impact. The mine has been accused of causing water pollution, as well as harming the local ecology. In 2013, the mine was ordered to pay a fine of $3 million for failing to comply with environmental regulations.

Despite the controversy, the mine is an important part of the local economy and provides much needed employment opportunities. It is also a major source of nickel for the global market, and is one of the most important nickel producers in the world.
