Gov't wants mining to gain all

The government is raising a wide-ranging policy to allocate resource owners to completely benefit from the mining industry here.

Tuesday, Minister of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification, Edward Huniehu told this to parliament. He said the inclusive policy will be used to bargain with mining companies who are awareness to do exploration and mining here.

The ministry considers that without this policy, we can’t negotiate a fair contract on behalf of resource owners, the national government and provinces, It is somewhat that we are greatly think about, Edward Huniehu said. He said he’s looking for donor assistance to make stronger his ministry run awareness programmes.

"They are also going to help the ministry to enhance the appropriate policy and as well support mineral as a product that could supply an enabling condition for a wider and fortified economy," he said.

Walter Industries to start new coal mine

Walter Industries Inc coal manufacturer said that its board permitted a plan to start a new coal mine among 400,000 tons of annual capability, growing the company's United Land subsidiary's surface mining operations.

United Land will spend about USD 30 million to increase the mine, which will use around 50 people and will be placed in Jefferson County. The new mine is to be called as Flat Top Mine, is a 600 acre surface coal mine with capital of about 2.3 million tons of steam and industrial coal on land hold by the company.

Expansion of the mine will start instantly, and, with approval already in place, the coal is likely to be offered for sale by May 2009. The board as well voted to double the company's quarterly dividend to 10 cents per share.
