Omega Hydraulic Diggings

OMEGA HYDRALIC DIGGINGS

The Omega Hydraulic Diggings are situated one mile north of what was the town of Omega through the California Gold Rush. The site is southeast of the unincorporated town of Washington, California. From SR 20, the diggings are available through the gravel Omega Road which combines with Forest Route 29 in meager sections.

ALPHA AND OMEGA

One mile north of here was the towns of Alpha and Omega, named by gold miners in the early on 1850s. The great hydraulic diggings, noticeable from close to this point, engulfed the majority of the original town sites. Alpha was the origin of famed opera singer Emma Nevada. Mining at Omega sustained until 1949, and lumbering operations are carried on there nowadays (1958).
