Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd is a Govt of India enterprise having its head office in Bangalore. It has iron ore mines in Kudremukh on the Western Ghats and a pelletisation plant in Mangalore.The Kudremukh is known to be one of the largest iron ore mine in the world.

Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd (KIOCL) is a Government of India enterprise that is engaged in the mining and export of high-grade iron ore. It is headquartered in Mangalore, Karnataka and is one of the largest iron ore mining companies in India.

KIOCL was established in 1976 and was initially owned by the Government of Karnataka. In April 2006, the Government of India took over the management of KIOCL and it is now a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Steel. KIOCL operates three iron ore mines located in Kudremukh, Karnataka and Donimalai, Karnataka.

The Kudremukh mine is one of the largest open-pit iron ore mines in the world and is spread over an area of 3,000 hectares. The mine produces over 30 million tonnes of iron ore every year and is the only source of iron ore for KIOCL’s steel plant at Mangalore. The Donimalai mine is located in the Bellary district of Karnataka and produces over 10 million tonnes of iron ore every year. KIOCL’s mining activities are carried out in a sustainable manner. The company has adopted environment friendly measures such as dust suppression, water harvesting, afforestation and reclamation of mined out areas. KIOCL has also taken several initiatives to ensure the safety of its workers and the local community.

KIOCL exports high-grade iron ore to countries like China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. The company also supplies iron ore to Indian steel mills and other domestic customers.
