Queensland government will put up a three-member execution committee to manage the continuation of Uranium Mining in the state, according to a announcement from premier Campbell Newman and the minister for natural resources and mines, Andrew Cripps. The statement followed “sustained public debate on uranium mining in Queensland, and strong support for the uranium industry from the Federal Labor Government”.

Mr Cripps said with Queensland’s known uranium deposits worth an estimated A$10 billion, the “industry has huge potential to support economic growth, mainly in regional North Queensland”. Mr Cripps added that the state government would not think nuclear energy production or nuclear waste removal plants as part of the resumption of uranium mining.
